Earlier this year the Government launched a discussion paper (the Green Paper for Vulnerable Children) to give people and communities a say on how New Zealand can better protect abused, neglected and disadvantaged children.
All New Zealanders are urged to have their say before 28 February 2012. It's easy to make a submission. No submission is too small to be considered. A submission can be a few sentences or a collection of comments from a group of friends or neighbours – it doesn’t have to be a formal document and you don’t have to be an expert to do one.
We will be making a submission calling for the introduction of training in the prevention of child abuse as a requirement for all professionals that work directly with children. There is no point in introducing mandatory reporting of child abuse if people are not taught how to indentify the abuse. Child abuse will only be eliminated when every adult has the knowledge and ability to recognise the warnings signs and the confidence to take action.
To make it easier, we have developed a template submission that you can print-off, sign, and post in.
If you would like to write your own submssion we have developed some key points you might like to include.
All submissions can be sent:
- By mail to: Freepost 238714, Green Paper for Vulnerable Children, P O Box 1556, Wellington 6140
- By email to: yourresponse "at" childrensactionplan.govt.nz
- Online at http://www.saysomething.org.nz/.
