Foundations to Safeguarding Children on the Autism Spectrum

Introductory workshop for those who work or interact with children on the spectrum in their professional or volunteering capacity.
Participants will:
 Gain an understanding of autism and the different ways it can impact people
 Be able to identify the different types and indicators of child abuse and neglect
 Gain an understanding of the increased vulnerability for children with autism in terms of child abuse and neglect
 Understand how to respond to, support and get help for a child with autism when abuse is suspected, and how this can differ from a neuro typical child
 Be better equipped to ensure the safety, wellbeing and protection of children with autism, and their families and whānau
