Child Protection Supervision
Structured group supervision sessions designed for professionals working with children
Don't make decisions in a vacuum; safe and responsible practice is centred around collaboration and communication. Within this confidential group setting, facilitated by Child Matters experts, you will be able to reflect on and work through complex situations to support safe, ethical decision-making.
Groups of up to six people meet for a 2-hour facilitated supervision session.
Lead by an experienced Child Matters consultant with extensive expertise in child protection practice and processes.
What can we discuss?
Sessions are flexible and responsive to the needs of the group. Every discussion is considered through a child protection lens, keeping the safety and wellbeing of children at the centre of professional decision-making. Topics may include, but are not limited to:
Debriefing after complex or challenging situations
Practice discussion and professional reflection
Ethical decision-making and managing professional dilemmas
Assessing risk and making safe decisions for children
Professional development and building practice confidence
Organisational challenges affecting practice
System pressures and barriers to effective child protection practice
Boundaries, professional responsibility and accountability
Self-care, resilience and managing the emotional demands of the work
Reflecting on patterns, assumptions and professional judgement
Expertise that strengthens practice
Child protection decisions are rarely straightforward. Our facilitators bring extensive experience across child protection practice and understand the realities professionals face when working with complex families, competing priorities, organisational pressures and uncertainty.
Our supervision model provides a framework that goes beyond simply talking about the work. It creates space to ask:
Have we considered everything?
What are we missing?
What is the safest decision for this child?
Is our response proportionate and defensible?
What is influencing our professional judgement?
